    I would like to create a hair product for *my* hair. As
    someone who does not have cosmetic science background, what is the best way to
    start? 

    Since I have different textures in my hair, I was thinking
    the best way to start was to somehow analyze my hair to see the exact
    percentage of everything and how each texture absorbs and retains moisture.

    Also, is there any place in Chicago that would be able to do
    that for me? Thank you for your help! :)

    PL – I wish you luck but I think you might be biting off more than you can chew. 

    If you really want to learn how to analyze your own hair, formulate products to deliver specific benefits, and then manufacture those products yourself you’re going to need considerable resources. 

    I suggest you post your question over at http://www.chemistscorner.com and see if some of the chemists there might be able to help you.
