My handcream (by Vaseline) claims that it makes your nails ten-times stronger in two weeks. If my nails are ten times stronger, will I still be able to cut them?

Rest easy, Pits, no lotion or cream will make your nails so strong that you can’t cut them. Products frequently claim they make your nails (or hair) 2x, 5x, or 10x stronger. Many companies play this numbers game but in our opinion, these claims are a bit sketchy. In reality, it’s more about the type of test used and what the product is compared against. If you like the Vaseline product, buy it. But don’t buy it just because they tell you it makes your nails 10x stronger. You’ll never be able to tell the difference! Oh no! I’m taking it that Sally Hansen’s “Hard as Nails” isn’t living up to it’s claim of stronger nails! Say it ain’t so, beauty brains!
Have you ever heard of these nail files? I have tried them and they are incredible! I’ve never heard of anything like them before. There are no products that will make the nails grow longer and stronger! These products will make your nails 10% stronger than what?
If there were a product that would really make your nails grow faster and stronger, there would be no such thing as artificial nails or nail enhancments!! The nail salons would be out of business!
The nail hardeners will help make the nails harder, but they also dry out the nails and in time, say about five months if you used it faithfully, your nails will then start to snap due to severe dryness and brittleness.
Use a good cuticle oil like ENTITY Cuticle Oil or one of the other good brands.

well i usually put garlic in my clear nail poish and it helps your nails grow the smell dosnt last very long it wares off in like an hour if you wash your hands after your nails dry.

Before you jump all over me – I WORK for FlexiNail. I do have an awful lot of knowledge about nails though – so maybe my brief comments here may make sense.
Someone above very thoroughly described what a nail is and what it is made up of. Correct, it is dead cells packed together. As they pack together they “push” the nail out (it grows). When the body fights a disease or infection, sometimes this “growth” is disrupted and you will see a horizontal line across the nails. You can’t change that “ridge” until it gets pushed out to the end of the nail.
I mention this because it is very difficult to change the make-up of the nail that is already there. It has a natural protective coating that as humans we tend to screw up with things like frequent exposure to water (dish washing, soaks in baths and even frequent hand washing with water or alcohol based gels etc); trying to make them look good (acrylics, nail polish, nail polish remover etc); and even exposure to weather (dry cold winters or dry hot summers).
All of these things (and more) attack the nail’s protective coating and cause nail problems. The lipids are stripped from the nail and the nail “dries” out and becomes brittle or peels.
Taking an oral supplement will NOT help and you are wasting your money if you buy some for your nails. Even most nail “oils” are simply an oil (which yes should hydrate and supply lipids to the nail) with “added” vitamin E etc. The vitamin E in these oils is mostly to stop the oil from going rancid, because unless the oil is able to penetrate through the nail’s protective barrier – the oil and the vitamin E etc just sit on the top of the nail and do very little other than to hydrate the cuticle (which is a good thing).

I have to admit, I am a bit skeptical that this nail product will actually work. I have tried EVERYTHING and nothing has worked for my dry brittle flaky nails. My cuticles are always dry as well.
