I’ll be totally honest: most of the press releases I get are boring crap about the newest flavor of lip balm or something equally banal. But occasionally I do see something that catches my eye. Case in point, this website from Healthline that allows you to search for clinical trials in your area for a specific medical condition.
What does this have to do with beauty science, you ask?
I played around with the search function a little bit and was surprised to find how many new drug trials are underway for medical conditions that would also solve beauty problems. For example, I found tests for scaly skin medication, anti-acne drugs, wart removal creams, even baldness cures. And some of those were even close to my home!
I’m not necessarily saying I’d sign up for one of these tests but if you have severe psoriasis or acne vulgaris, you might want to take a look. Here’s the link so you can check it out for yourself:

Yes I would
Absolutely. Especially if it was to evaluate an already in market product for a new cosmetic labeling, retin-a and botox as examples.
EW, that’s interesting! I hadn’t thought of the possibility of a drug that’s already on the market being tested for a different application.
Yes, I would because I have nearly exhausted all of the Rx therapies in my almost decade-long battle with acne. Name a therapy (or combination of therapies) and I’ve tried it. My healthcare provider is checking to see if she can prescribe a second round of isotretinoin for me, but I may have aged out of my insurance’s coverage because one is “not supposed to have acne after a certain age.”
Wow, what a a ridiculous, ageist statement!
Absolutely. I’d try anything to permanently get rid of my acne. It is crushing my self esteem.
I would definitely sign up for a trial to solve a problem. Do you know of a site that lets you access normal medical trials for things other than beauty issues?
Janelle: The site that we linked to covers normal medical trials I was just pointing out some beauty related examples.
Definitely, if I was dealing with one of those conditions. I had pretty bad acne as a teenager and it drove me crazy. As for Nadine, it seemed like everything I did either had no effect or made it worse, so I can absolutely understand how someone with one of the conditions you mentioned would be desperate for a cure. (I eventually went on an Rx antibiotic that helped to clear it up, and I think my skin also dried out a bit with age as well.)
