I’m curious about the mascara story. They discuss how some of the six mascaras they used in the trial were much more irritating than others. I am assuming all the ones tested are already on the market; is there some acceptable level of irritation? And I think it’s great news that they will be able to stop using rabbits for this!
In irritation testing it’s not uncommon to have a few percent of positive responses. (A positive response means the product being tested did illicit a response which indicates irritation. Even hypoallergenic products can still rate positive for irritation on some panelists depending on how the test is designed.
