Hi there im one of those people in search of Holy Grail shampoo and conditioner. Im never able to find that balance of not too drying and greasy. At any rate i ran into the company Function of Beauty when you “make” your own shampoo and conditioner. You pick 5 qualities you want to address, like volume and shine etc. you choose a fragrance and color of product! Has anyone tried this? Can it be any different than drug store stuff ?? Im so curious… laura

This is interesting, but I would think it wouldn’t be much different than just find a line of products and picking the one marketed to your hair type. If you have curly hair, go to Pantene for example and just get the curly hair stuff. This site is user inputted so I don’t see how it would be any different. Also, I don’t like they don’t tell you what’s in the stuff after they off their recommendation.

The blogger of “Science-y Hair Blog” offers a service through etsy where you send strands of your hair to her and she looks at it under a microscope and does tests and recommends product types for you that already exist. I’d probably think that’s more beneficial.

It can be fun to buy customized products (especially if you get to choose the fragrance and color) but this is more marketing than science.
