Nothing seems to work. Is there any really effective treatment for this problem? I don’t mean redness right after waxing, it is gone in a few hours but what happens when an ingrown hair gets infected and even painful. Thank you!
Thorough exfoliation with AHAs (glycolic acid 5-10%) and BHAs (salicylic acid 2%) along with water based moisturization can help with the issue, some people are more prone to it than others. It is also helpful to make an effort to keep freshly waxed areas extra clean (an antibacterial aqueous cream) for 24hrs post waxing while the acid mantle is repairing for area that are touched a lot (face) or are known areas that harbor bacteria (warm, moist, dark – arm pits/groin). Give yourself a 48hr buffer before & after waxing with the exfoliant use.
Also, spot treat the big, red, sore ones with Benzoyl Peroxide 5% for a week or until it goes down, try not to squeeze or pick as you’ll rupture the follicle walls and spread the bacteria Treat for a couple of days after it starts to heal too & be careful of clothing/bedding as it will bleach. If it’s really bad (more than a couple) it’s usually referred to as folliculitis and it’s best to see a dr.
