Two Questions

1. Is face mask really necessary?
Many friends and relatives around me are using face mask for skin care. And the face masks have many functions and my friends said face masks do work a lot. Is it true?

2. CVS Pharmacy VS other brands

As we know, CVS pharmacy has some skin care products that are very similar to other brands'. For example, CVS Oil-Free Acne Facial Cleanser Pink Grapefruit, 6 OZ, $7.29 VS Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Facial Cleanser, Pink Grapefruit, 6 OZ, $8.49

Ingredients (CVS)
water,sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate,cocamidopropyl betaine,linoleamidopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate,polysorbate 20,anthemis nobilis flower extract,citrus grandis (grapefruit) fruit extract,aloe barbadensis flower extract,chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract,C12-15 alkyl lactate,cocamidopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate,polyquaternium-7,ascorbyl palmitate,propylene glycol,sodium benzotriazolyl butylphenol sulfonate,PEG-120 methyl glucose dioleate,PEG-80 sorbitan laurate,disodium EDTA,sodium chloride,benzalkonium chloride,red 40,violet 2,fragrance

Water, Sodium C14 16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Linoleamidopropyl, PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Polysorbate 20, Anthemis Nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Flower Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, C12 15 Alkyl Lactate, Cocamidopropyl PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Polyquaternium 7, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Propylene Glycol, Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butylphenol Sulfonate, PEG 120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, PEG 80 Sorbitan Laurate, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Benzalkonium Chloride Solution, Red 40, Violet 2, Fragrance

Are they different? Is CVS more quality?

  • 1. Are face masks necessary? No. Lots of people have perfectly fine skin without using masks. Do they provide any benefits at all? Sure. It depends on the product but some people just enjoy the way they leave their skin feeling.

    2. These products are extremely similar. I'd buy the cheaper one.
  • Thank you very much Randy!

And one more question: Is it better to use baby skin care products because it is milder and less irritating?

  • It's impossible to answer a question like this because it's so general. In some cases the answer might be yes. In other cases there are "regular" products that may be milder than baby shampoos. It also depends on the type of product you're talking about. You won't find a baby product for your face that will reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

If you have two specific products to compare then it's much easier to make an assessment on mildness. Even then, any assessment based solely on reviewing ingredients will be directional at best. That's why companies have to spend so much money on safety testing to establish their products are not irritating.
  • For example:

Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer, 4 Oz, $9.19
Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (0.5%) (Acne medication); Inactive Ingredients: Arachidyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Behenyl Alcohol, BHT, Bis Phenylpropyl Dimethicone, C12 15 Alkyl Benzoate, C13 14 Isoparaffin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Fragrance, Glycerin, Glycine Soja Seed Extract (Soybean), Isoceteth 20, Laureth 7, Methyl Gluceth 20, Polyacrylamide, PPG 10 Cetyl Ether, Water

Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream, 8 Ounce, $6.97
Water, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium lauroamphoacetate, glycerin, coco-glucoside, sodium chloride, citric acid, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, sodium benzoate, glyceryl oleate, sodium hydroxide, fragrance, polyquaternium-10, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, butylene glycol, avena sativa (oat) kernel extract.a
  • You're comparing an over the counter drug that is proven to work against acne to a non-medicated moisturizing cream for babies. The intended functions of these two products are dramatically different. The Clear Complexion product uses sal acid to fight acne and sal acid is by its very nature irritating.

If you want mild cleansing use the baby product. If you want to fight acne  use the Clear Complexion product.
